When people think about online reviews, it’s usually the glowing 5-star feedback that stands out. And while we’re incredibly proud of the positive comments we receive from happy customers, at Auto Bodies Clevedon we believe that 1-star reviews are just as important.
Recently, we received a 1-star review from a driver who was involved in an accident with one of our customers. The feedback described our team as “pushy and condescending,” which is never nice to read. But here’s why it’s still valuable:
1. Every Review Tells a Story
In this case, the reviewer wasn’t actually our customer – they were the other party involved in an accident. Our responsibility was to look after our customer, ensuring their vehicle was repaired quickly, to the highest standard, and at no cost to them. That sometimes means we have to ask tough questions and push for details that are needed to process a claim properly. In this instance our customer's car was hit by another vehicle while they weren't even sat in their car leaving serious damage to the drivers side of the vehicle. Upon returning to his car our customer found it difficult to get the other party's insurance details leaving him with a damaged car and no support to get it sorted. We took it upon ourselves to give our customer the right advice and help him with contacting the third party to request these details.
Rest assured, if you come to us following a non-fault accident we will ensure you are supported through every aspect of your claim and we are more than happy to act as an intermediary between you and the person that hit you. We would always recommend using an accident management company in these scenarios, read more about how this can help you here.
2. Honest Feedback Keeps Us Accountable
No business gets it right 100% of the time, and reviews – both good and bad – remind us to reflect on how we communicate and how we’re perceived. Even if we were acting in the best interests of our customer, it’s important we don’t lose sight of professionalism and empathy along the way. Emotions can run high following a traffic collision and it's always in our minds to make sure we treat everyone involved in the incident in a fair and courteous manner, regardless of who was at fault.
3. Transparency Builds Trust
When potential customers see only perfect reviews, it can look too good to be true. A mix of feedback, along with honest and respectful responses from us, shows that we’re a real business handling real-world situations. We don’t shy away from criticism – we face it head-on and explain our side of the story. We know that people are not always 100% satisfied with service they recieve from businesses which is why we always really appreciate any feedback from anyone who has spoken with us.
4. Our Focus Remains on the Customer
In this situation, the customer whose car was damaged left us a 5-star review, which is the best outcome we could ask for. Their vehicle was repaired, their costs were covered, and they drove away happy. That’s always our priority.
We’ll never claim to be perfect, but we will always be honest, transparent, and customer-focused. If we get a 1-star review, we take the time to read it, respond to it and learn from it. Just as importantly, we let our 5-star service to our actual customers speak for itself.
